Ortho Casting Tech-FT

Department: Surgical Specialty Clinics
Location: Rio Rancho, NM

 

Job Summary

Coordinates, provides and implements technical orthopaedic care for in/out patients alike. Apply casts, splints, traction and other orthopedic devices under the guidance and supervision of attending medical staff. Maintain orthopedic equipment.  Perform gait training to the orthopaedic patients.  Patient care assignment will include adult and geriatric age groups in the Ambulatory and Hospital setting.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • POLICIES AND PROCEDURES - Maintain established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, and quality assurance programs
  • PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT - Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops.
  • Assists with the care of orthopaedic patients.
  • Applies casts, splints, traction and other orthopaedic devices under the guidance and supervision of attending medical staff.
  • Perform gait training to the orthopaedic patients.
  • Maintains orthopaedic equipment.
  • May perform a variety of clerical duties in support of assigned area.
  • May work on an on-call basis (after normal work hours) to support the orthopaedic surgeons and ambulatory orthopaedic midlevel providers for casting, splinting and fitting of  prosthetic equipment and/or other orthopaedic durable medical equipment as needed.
  • Adheres to all Ambulatory and Hospital Policies and Procedures
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements

Education: High School Graduate/GED and / or successful completion of the following:  Certified Medical Assistant, Orthopaedic Technician program, EMT / Paramedic program. (Military Medic / Corpsman graduate (DD214 form) accepted.)

       Licenses/Certifications: CPR Certification or must obtain within 30 calendar days of date of position 

Work Experience:  2 years minimum clinical experience in an Orthopaedic outpatient clinic or cast room or Emergency Room EMT/Paramedic experience

Preferred Qualifications/Requirements

Education:  Graduated from a certified Orthopaedic Technician program.

Work Experience:  1-2 years minimum Orthopaedic Technician ambulatory setting
